on a roll

Sunshiny boy in a sunshiny t-shirt.
Danceability: check.
Label from Sublime Stitching.
Help, we practically have a teenager on our hands! He keeps saying no to a haircut, not that I really mind, but that hair is becoming huge.
On reflection, I may have preferred this t-shirt with plain sleeves. I just got carried away with how cool this Loch Ness Monster print (Shy Ness by ceanirminger) is. The all-over print has a slight pyjama-effect. But he's pretty happy.
In other compulsive crafting news, I've been toying with crochet.
Chunky 10mm hook with chunky wool which is becoming a little blanket for snuggling under on the couch.
Experimenting with two strands at once (because I'm impatient), making cotton washcloths.
Andy's brother Rob stayed with us for a couple of days when he came to see the show Andy directed. Rob's a fabulous photographer, just as a hobby but he's starting to sell a bit too. He let me have a play with a couple of his very nice camera lenses. The crochet photos above were taken with his 100mm macro lens. As was this more-detail-than-you-really-want chicken photo.
Heheh. Not sure what this chook is thinking but I have lens envy.

  1. I love those new fabrics! I've been trying to resist purchasing too much from Spoonflower, only because of price. But every time I see what you make it's harder to resist!

    1. Yeah, it's not cheap... but you'd probably be horrified by the prices of most fabrics here in Australia too. I'm justifying the spoonflower stuff on a cost-per-wear basis because the boys have lived in their t-shirts! And I'm kind of making the most of the great AUD/USD exchange rate at the moment ;P
By the way, I have emailed the spoonflower folk to see if they have any tips on the fabric fade. I'll post any news or tips.

  2. Dishcloths are a great way to learn crochet. Also I found a really good book at the library called 'teach yourself crochet visually' or something like that. REALLY HELPFUL. And there's always you tube when you get stuck!

  3. I love the tshirts you're making Jane - particularly the Loch Ness Monster one!
Mum tried to reteach crochet to me a few months ago, but without much success! (I'm left handed - does make things tricky sometimes)

    1. Er yes I imagine you'd have to do it all kind of back-to-front if you were left handed! For some reason I find crochet more accessible than knitting, and I love me a repetitive soothing manual task :)

  4. I'm having major Spoonflower fabric envy reading your posts! These are AWESOME!

I knit dishcloths, and they are great. I've made them in a sponge-like size and shape, with double yarn for extra chunkiness, and those are my favorites. Mind you, that's about as far as my knitting skills go, but hey, making dishcloths is a very practical skill!

  5. Wow! You are churning out the t-shirts lately! Well done. I love all the prints you have chosen. I disagree about using a plain sleeve on the lochness shirt, this print needs to be an all over print. The way you made it works well. Love your new labels to. I've been toying with the idea of getting some made, but can not settle on what they should say. I 'google translated' yours (as I do not speak french), and think this is perfect.

    1. Thanks :)
Yeah I've wondered about getting some labels specially made, too. These ones were 'off the rack' so to speak... I also got some cool ones which say "this took forever"!
I was thinking of getting some saying 'Bobbin' which as well as being a sewing machine thingummy, is what Clem used to call his bottom. Maybe one day... it all just takes so long to investigate!

  6. LOVE the chook shot! That's a classic... obviously cooking up some devious plan given the expression... if chooks can be said to have expressions.

I also find crochet more accessible than knitting... less fiddly and it required a lot less patience for me to learn!

Loving the t-shirts, those prints are fab, STILL have to explore that site one day. Don't mind the fading myself either... the loved look.

  7. Ahh! Spoonflower enabler!! I'm going to have to bite the bullet one day and buy some fabric from over there. The prints are just too cute. I'll probably wait until I'm a bit more competent in sewing with knits. If I destroyed some of the fabric I'd probably cry. Such great t-shirts!

  8. There seems to be a wave of crochet at the moment - everyone seems to be doing it. I've never managed crochet before (I'm a knitter)but I found some good instructions and am mid way through a little blanket. Love your chook photo.

  9. Don't cut his hair!!! It's so nice. My boy has always had longish hair like your boys and I was thinking this morning how sad I'd be (and how chilly he'd look) with a short boyish haircut.
LOVE the shirts too, but not so keen on the chicken (but cool photo).

  10. If it's any consolation, there is bigger boy-hair over here. Only my poor kid probably wants a hair cut and he doesn't have a cool Loch Ness Monster top either.
