I think my comment just disappeared into Clem's bag. At the risk of repeating myself: I love it! It reminds me of the Christmas game where you look at 20 things on a tray and then have to write them down when the tray is taken away. What's the round thing to the right of the lump of brick?
It's a little nut/cone from the conifer that the foliage belongs to. They grow around the school oval. Jasper and his friends used to use them as some sort of play-currency, with value depending on the colour: green, gold or brown.
This is gorgeous Jane. I've been doing a children's book writing course and in it we talked about character development - and what you can tell by the contents of the character's pockets. I guess the same goes for the school bag.
